Forget Me Not

A garment or its wearer; what embodies the essence of being unforgettable?

Fashion is ever-evolving; designers, models, celebrities, and it-girls alike. From tabloids to TikTok, every fashionable moment in time is planted into the abyss of the internet. How do the pressures of being unforgettable remain in a culture where evolution is constant?

An unforgettable outfit can go down in history, especially in the world of fame. Outfits done by Rihanna, Julia Fox, and Marilyn Monroe have all been curated prior to their exhibition, yet we remember them as their look forever. It isn't the garments themselves that are remembered; it's the energy they've cultivated that becomes unforgettable.

When a designer's vision is fulfilled, from the opulent maximalism of Gucci to Balenciaga and Rick Owens' futuristic dystopia, a rejuvenating fantasy of art and media is catapulted into the market. We absorb this fantasmic vision, create our perceptions, and build reinterpretations. We act upon these interpretations by grasping what resonates with us. The fantasies portrayed through that designer's vision instill remembrance into our consciousness, affecting our own style choices. What we include in our style is full of pieces we grasp onto in hopes of blooming our own unique fantasmic vision.

Throughout pop culture, we have figures using fashion as a manifestation of their public personas, like Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, Bella Hadid, and Playboi Carti. All of them very differently express a common denominator of what it means to maintain an unforgettable style, influencing the realities of the industry and consumers who grant them their platform. How we nourish our style roots in what we consume; garments, media, and environment is what births our vision. A personal vision includes your style, aura, intention, and overall presentation. The opportunity to rebirth ourselves is at any given moment- observing what we consume influences how we view ourselves.

Fame is irrelevant to the blossoming of an unforgettable aura. By breathing life into your style, the world around you will start to prosper from your point of view. You don't need to have a large following to influence your own life or personal style. The more we grow into ourselves as individuals, the more we can bring garments to life and leave a lasting impression on those around us.

If the goal is to remain unforgettable through our presence in fashion, what's crucial is the reasoning behind why. We tend to put a lot of pressure on ourselves to be remembered or viral, and get likes, saves, and shares. Fame and going 'viral' is temporary– but the way you present yourself palpably is infectious.

A flower doesn't bloom with the pressures of expectation weighing them down— it develops organically. Similarly, a person evolving into their individual style should release the tensions of what being unforgettable means to society. Instead, realize YOU are unforgettable. There is only one you, and blooming into this realization is what's necessary to embody the essence of being memorable.

The self-perception you have, the aura you cultivate, and the pieces you wear plant the seeds of your blossoming style. Every morning you have the opportunity to rebirth your vision. Your past styles are trifling to your future ones. Release these dead flowers to blossom into a rejuvenated self-presentation. Recognizing that style should be the fruit of your beauty and uniqueness produces the unforgettable essence we desire.
